"My Child has sensory and/or physical needs"

This section covers students who have difficulties with:

  1. Vision
  2. Hearing
  3. Gross motor co-ordination
  4. Fine motor co-ordination
  5. Self-organisation for daily living
  6. It includes conditions such as cerebral palsy, physical injury, dyspraxia
  7. NB Please see speech, language and social communication section for sensory issues relating to ASD/Asperger Syndrome

"What can Parrs Wood High School offer?"

All our students at PWHS can access:

  1. Quality First teaching with appropriate differentiation
  2. Use of technology to support interactive learning
  3. Amplification of sound for aid users
  4. Main School fully wheelchair physical accessible
  5. Access to homework support clubs
  6. Regular reading sessions during tutor time to further reading skills
  7. Access to assessment for identification of significant needs
  8. Dedicated and caring staff who value all students regardless of ability
  9. Gifted and Talented
  10. Sixth Form Mentor

Targetted students at PWHS can access:

  1. Handwriting /fine motor/keyboard skills training
  2. Group discussions and information giving from our qualified school nurse
  3. Access to assistive technology, software, Alpha Smarts, audio digital books and IPad applications
  4. Access to Learning Support Assistant through Education, Health and Care Plan

Please note: These options need to be agreed upon for each student in conjunction with parents/carers and then regularly reviewed/modified.

Targeted Individual support can access:

  1. Personalised support plans
  2. 1:1 Outside Agency support from Advisory Teachers and in reach advise from specialist provisions
  3. Individual handwriting /fine motor/keyboard skills training
  4. Specialist equipment and materials eg: enlarged adapted resources
  5. Access to assistive technology, software, AlphaSmarts, audio digital books and IPad applications
  6. Targeted LSA support for complex medical needs, including practical support through Education, Health and Care Plan
  7. Exam Access Arrangements
  8. Respite support through the Inclusion Classroom if required
  9. Family liaison officer for parental support
  10. Hygiene suite
