"My Child has difficulties with social, emotional health or mental health"

This section includes all those young people who experience short but significant periods of high anxiety, stress, distress or anger that affect their education. It also includes young people who have a range of longer-term recognised mental health conditions.

For both groups, issues can include:

  1. Forming and maintaining relationships
  2. Bereavement
  3. Attitudes to attainment
  4. Attendance
  5. Self-esteem
  6. Life outside school

All our students at PWHS can access:

  1. Quality First teaching with appropriate differentiation
  2. Access to homework support clubs
  3. Regular reading sessions during tutor time to further reading skills
  4. Access to assessment for identification of significant needs
  5. Whole school Central Reward System
  6. Whole school policy for behaviour management with graduated response
  7. Key Stage transition support
  8. Anti-bullying policy and the SHARP reporting system
  9. A wide variety of lunchtime and after school activities
  10. Sixth Form Mentor
  11. LBGT Group
  12. Access to Pupil Support Manager

Targetted students at PWHS can access:

  1. Breakfast club
  2. Summer school- year 6 into 7 activity weeks and for some pupils in Year 7-8
  3. Inclusion Classroom lunchtime drop-in
  4. Intervention groups (all years)- behaviour/social skills/self esteem/stress management
  5. In-class support in some lessons
  6. Alternative curriculum projects eg: Boxing, 'She' Club and Gardening
  7. Bereavement Group
  8. Peer mentoring
  9. Year 11, 12 and 13 support with college applications and career paths

Please note: These options need to be agreed upon for each student in conjunction with parents/carers and then regularly reviewed/modified.

Targeted Individual support can access:

  1. 1:1 mentoring with a Pupil Support Manager
  2. Outside agency input (e.g. Educational Psychologist,Youth Offending Team, CAMHS, 42nd Street, Eclipse)
  3. Flexible timetables
  4. Personal Support Plan- support for students at risk of permanent exclusion
  5. Support from Safeguarding Team / school nurse
  6. Looked After Child support
  7. Art Therapy
  8. Sixth Form Mentor
  9. Pupil Support Centre
  10. Parrs Wood Alternative Curriculum Centre (PACE)
  11. Support with careers and transition post 16
  12. Exam Access Arrangements
  13. Family Liaison Officer for parental support
