Badminton

The Manchester School’s Badminton Doubles Competition took place  at Whalley Range  High School and it was a great start to the sporting year. Congratulations to all our students that  took part for a well contested competition with an excellent standard of play. Not bad considering we are so soon into the term. MGS and Our Lady’s dominated the boys and the girls events respectively winning gold in both age groups. However  Parrs Wood medalled in 3 of the events.

A special congratulations goes to Will Hoyle and Will Gregson who gained the silver medal becoming the Manchester Schools’ Runners Up in KS4, Olivia Gilson and Lois Quinn gained the bronze medal winning the 3rd place pay off in the KS4 girls and Lucy Gibson and Margaux Connolly gained the bronze medal winning the 3rd place pay off in the KS3. Danish Irfan and Eugene Green representing the boys at KS3 had a great learning experience finishing 3rd in the group stages and 6th overall.
Well done to all our badminton players.

Congratulations to the girls KS3 and KS4 badminton teams that took part in the South Manchester Team Badminton tournament at Parrs Wood High School. Both teams became the South Manchester Team Badminton Champions. All the girls played well working with enthusiasm, determination and a little more tactical awareness than the opposition.

The team were;- KS3  - Hannah McInnes, Alice Mousley, Billy Jean Davies Mariah Balogun
KS4 - Olivia Gilson, Lucy Gibson, Lois Quinn, Aqsa Munawar

The boys  KS3 and KS4 badminton teams that took part in the South Manchester Team Badminton tournament at Burnage  High School. All the boys played well working with enthusiasm, determination but the competition had a little more tactical awareness and mobility. Unfortunately neither team qualified for the finals. The team were;- KS3     - Danish Irfan, Daniel Bond, Eugene Green, Luke McCrone, Finley Spencer. KS4 -  William Hoyle, Will Gregson, Jhoti Mahapatra, Alfie McIntyre.

KS2 Football Competition
Parrs Wood hosted the South Manchester Primary round 1 football league . there was a great turn out by future students of Parrs Wood.

A really big thank goes to Miss Slater and her team of Football Sports Leaders that organised and ran the competition. The leaders were;- Alice Dunne, Anya Custis, Sadhbh Fleming MacDonald and Krystal McLoughlin

Cross Country

65 students,  boys and girls from years 7 -11 represented the school at the first round of the Manchester Schools’ Cross Country League event which was held at Wythenshawe Park Athletics Track. There were a record number of schools and runners taking part in the competition.

All students ran well but there were some outstanding performances by some of our students.

Handball 

Parrs wood hosted the Manchester Schools’ U15 Handball Championships this week.
Congratulations to Parrs Wood who won both the boys and girls competitions, beating Trinity in a close and very competitive boys final; and beating Our Lady’s 4-3 in the girls event, a very closely fought match with Our Lady’s shooting at least 5 balls over the crossbar and the Parrs Wood goalie saving at least another 5 shots on target. Some excellent play!

Indoor Athletics

Friday saw the start of the Indoor Athletics season. Unfortunately apart from Krystal  McLoughlin the Yr 10/11 girls were unable to raise a team,  through lack of interest, to compete which was disappointing. However, the  boys team went to Sports City and competed very well.
There were some outstanding individual performance.
