The Manchester U16 Singles Table Tennis Competition took place on Weds 30 Nov at Our Lady's High School. Yet again it was another great event with a very high standard of play.
Four students represented Parrs Wood and we had a lot of success.
Congratulations goes to Will Gregson and Olivia Gilson who gained the gold medal by winning both their competitions to be crowned Manchester Schools’ U/16 Table Tennis Champions. Lucy Gibson achieved the silver medal coming Manchester Schools’ u/16 Table Tennis Runner Up.
Jhoti Mahapatra put in a good performance and finished in 8th place
The Manchester U13 Singles Table Tennis Competition took place on Weds 6th again at Our Lady's High School.
Four students from yr8 represented the school and performed with effort, determination and control.
Congratulations goes to Alice Hoyle who won all her matches to be crowned the Manchester Schools’ U/13 Table Tennis Champion receiving the gold medal. Hannah Stoddart played well and finished in 4th position.
Finley Spencer was the best performer in the boys competition just missing out on the medals finishing in 4th place after beating the eventual winner in the group stage.
George Poole put up a good performance and finished in 6th place.
Congratulations goes to Basil Sultan in year 7 for his cricketing performances during last summer’s cricket season. As well as playing for his primary school Basil played cricket for Lancashire at junior level for the u11 age group.
On Monday 5th December at the Lancashire Cricket Boards presentation evening, held at the Emirates Stadium Old Traford for the Development of Excellence, Basil received an award for his batting and bowling performances throughout the 2016 season
He was awarded Player of the Year/Season for achieving 102 (not out) against Cheshire and for being the team's leading all-rounder taking 10 wickets with an economy rate of 2.6 and scoring 295 the highest score for the season.
We very much look forward to seeing Basil continue in his development as a cricket player not only for Lancashire County but also for Parrs Wood in the 2017 summer season.
Manchester Schools’ Badminton Team Finals
Congratulations to the Girls KS3 Badminton Team who were crowned the Manchester Team Champions at the Manchester Schools’ Badminton Team Finals.
They beat Trinity 4-1 in the final who were the Central Area Champions.
The KS4 Team did really well. They went with a player short as they were let down at the last minute so started each match 2-0 down. They lost the first match against Cedar Mount 3-2 who then lost to Abraham Moss. Parrs Wood then beat Abraham Moss 3-2 so it was a three way tie. Unfortunately they lost on points count due to having to concede four games. They achieved 3rd place and received the bronze medal. Well done girls!

Congratulations to William Gregson who competed and finished 3rd in the Racketlon World Championships in Nuremburg, Germany.
In this competition you play matches up to 21 in table tennis, tennis badminton and squash against each opponent.
William came third in the U13’s only losing to the ultimate winner, also from the UK, in a closely fought semi-final (23-25, 6-21, 17-21, 1-2). Throughout the 4 days of competition in the U13’s and Men’s D, William had matches against players from England (2), Sweden (2), Scotland, Finland and Germany.
More congratulations goes to William as he was selected to play Badminton for Lancashire against other counties in a recent tournament.
Manchester Schools’ Finals
Forty students represented the school at the Manchester School’s Indoor Rowing Championships held at Levenshulme HS . Teams of 4 students, boys and girls, from all the year groups from 7 to 11 competed against other Schools in Manchester and the surrounding area.
A total of 283 teams (1132 individuals), from Manchester, Trafford and Stockport took part in the competition.
All Parrs Wood’s rowers performed with determination but some lacked control over their technique and therefore didn’t perform to their full potential .
However, a number of our teams did click together and achieved medal positions.
