On 1st September 2016 Parrs Wood High School became an academy.

An academy is a school that is run by a charitable trust, known as the 'academy trust', which is independent of local council control, and receives its funding directly from central government.

Parrs Wood High School is also the founder of the newly formed Greater Manchester Learning Trust which was established by the then Governing Body of Parrs Wood High School. The Multi Academy Trust is able to create formal partnerships with other educational providers for the educational benefit of all children across its schools.
