LEVEL OF STUDY

Parrs Wood Sixth Form has a fine tradition of academic success. The Advanced Level courses offered are A-Level or BTECs.

A-Levels are divided into two years of study. The first year is called AS, you will generally take two modules in each subject and receive an AS qualification. The second year is called A2. Again you will generally take two modules during the year. Successful completion of both years will give you a full A-Level qualification.

Applied qualifications such as BTECs will require you to take 6, 12 or 18 units over the 2 years and can be equivalent to up to 3 A-Level passes.

PROGRAMME OF STUDY

In Year 12 you are expected to take 3 or 4 subjects at Advanced Level. Each subject is taught for 6 x 50 min sessions per week. This leaves a number of free periods for independent study. During this time you will be free to make use of the college’s study and IT facilities.

In addition to your AS courses you will participate in an Enrichment programme which will add value to any university or job application as well as developing leadership and communication skills.

In Year 13 most students take 3 A2 courses, leaving at the end of Year 13 with three full A-Levels or equivalent and an additional AS qualification.
