Year 11 Oxford University Trip to Corpus Christi College

Year 11 Oxford University Trip to Corpus Christi College

At Parrs Wood High School, we like to offer students a variety of experiences. We were invited to Corpus Christi College Oxford on the 22nd November. Twelve Year 11 students were given the opportunity to consider future career choices and degree courses. The Students all had the opportunity to experience University life, understanding the application process, enjoying their meals in the beautiful oak panelled dining rooms of Corpus Christi College.

During our visit, Anna, the Outreach officer, gave us a tour Corpus Christi College including the very well stocked libraries that are open 24 hours a day. Students then attended an academic taster session on Material Sciences creating solar electricity conductors. The students then had a Q&A session with Ray, a second Year Maths student, discussing the many different reasons students choose to go to university and how to improve one’s application process. The students then had a tour of Oxford looking at other colleges, Balliol Library, and the Rad Cam Observatory. Whilst walking past the Rad cam we bumped into two Parrs Wood students Jessica and Sienna now in their third year of studies at Oxford University, a super proud moment. The students were a credit to Parrs wood especially considering the 7 am departure time. The students were praised by the staff and students at Oxford University, describing Parrswood as “interactive and inspirational, send more students like these please". It was a privilege to accompany the students as they are excellent ambassadors for Parrs Wood High School.
