Year 7 Catch Up Premium

Year 7 Catch Up Premium

Since 2014, the DfES has allocated funding to schools so that students who have not met the Expected Standard in English and Maths by the end of KS2, can be given the opportunity to “catch-up” at KS3.

The government sets guidelines as to what this funding can be spent on.  These strategies include:

  • individual tuition
  • intensive small-group tuition
  • external services and materials
  • summer schools that help students catch up over a short period of time

You can find out more about the Catch-Up Funding here.

2019-2020 Year 7 Cohort

In the financial year 2019-20, we received £15,402 in Catch up funding support.

Overview to Students Below 100 at KS2 in Reading and GVPS:

  • Students who achieved less than 100 on the KS2 SATs have been identified.
  • 59 students achieved less than 100 in KS2 Reading
  • 24 students achieved less than 100 in KS2 GPVS

Actions for students who were Below 100 at KS2:

Class Level:

  • All students have taken a Star Reading Test and a Reading Age has been established. The class teacher will use this data to target the student directly during the ILC lesson (once a fortnight) and during Reading and/or SPaG tasks in class
  • Staff will flag these students on their seating plans so that it is clear that they may require additional support in lesson.
  • Class teachers to use the QLA (Question Level Analysis) data to inform planning and ensure differentiated tasks and specific support are part of lessons.

Additional Intervention:

Students have been divided into two categories to ensure appropriate intervention:

1.  Students who achieved below 95 in reading and GPVS

2. Students above 95 but below 100

Focus One: Students Below 95 in both Reading and GPVS

  • 24 students.
  • Bulk of students are in Transition classes and are therefore receiving bespoke provision tailored to their individual needs as well as an additional Functional English and Maths lesson per week
  • Students to receive fifty minute small-group in six small teams (4 students) external intervention twice a week for 8 weeks. This will be subsidised by the Y7 Catch-Up Funding.

Focus Two: Students Above 95 in GVPS but Below 100 in Reading

  • 15 students achieved above 95 but Below 100 in Reading.
  • Students to be added to Reading Peer-Mentoring during A.M. registration.
  • QLA data has been used to identify commonalities amongst the students.
  • Literacy Co-ordinator to withdraw students for weekly session during the school day.
